The War in Iraq, One Year Later:
A Season of Repentance and Fasting

Interfaith Communities United for Justice and Peace (ICUJP) has designated the period Friday, March 12 through Sunday, March 21 a season during which to reflect on the tremendous loss of lives due to the war and occupation of Iraq, and to rededicate ourselves to work for justice and peace. In trying to be sensitive to the needs of people from different faith traditions, we suggest a variety of ways that people and communities may respond.

Some will fast for a day, several days, or the entire period to heighten awareness and offer repentance for the actions of our government.

ICUJP is providing study guides and liturgical suggestions for inclusion in sermons and newsletters of faith congregations during this period.

We urge people to participate in vigils and other forms of witness throughout the week, to commemorate the start of the war and protest the continuing violence of the occupation.

We invite people to attend the installation
at the Westwood Federal Building on
Thursday, March 18  from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm

Westwood Federal Building – 11000 Wilshire Blvd.
(at Wilshire & Veteran just east of the 405)

The Season of Repentance and Fasting will conclude on Sunday, March 21 with a meal to be shared with homeless people to symbolize that everyone loses when lives and resources are spent on war instead of human needs.

We invite you to join us every Friday morning at 7:00 am at Immanuel Presbyterian Church, 3330 Wilshire Blvd at Berendo when we meet for reflection, education and planning. For study guides and further information please see the ICUJP website at www.icujp.org
