S 2386, The Intelligence Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2005, is currently being considered in the Senate. Section 502, DEFENSE INTELLIGENCE EXEMPTION FROM CERTAIN PRIVACY ACT REQUIREMENTS – will if passed eliminate crucial protections US citizens have from the establishment of a military secret police apparatus in the US.

Latest Major Action: 5/7/2004
Referred to Senate committee.
Status: Referred to the Committee on Armed Services pursuant to Section 3(b) of S.Res. 400, 94th Congress, for a period not to exceed 30 days of session.

Steven F. Rohde: A Call For a New Declaration of Inter-Dependence

Stephen F. Rohde is president of the Beverly Hills Bar Association. He is immediate past president of the ACLU of Southern California and recipient of the 2004 First Amendment Award from the ACLU of Southern California. He is the author of American Words of Freedom, which explores the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Mr. Rohde is a member of ICUJP's Srteerring Committee.
