Japanese Atomic Bomb Victims to Be Remembered on Peace Sunday
Sage Granada Park
United Methodist Church
1850 West Hellman Avenue
Alhambra
"Never Again" will be the theme on Peace Sunday, August 3, at 9:30 a.m., as Sage Granada Park United Methodist Church remembers the victims and survivors of the deadly Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bombings that took place on August 6 and 9, 1945. The public is invited to join this worship service in the church's newly dedicated Yokoi Chapel located at 1850 W. Hellman in Alhambra.
Guest preacher, Reverend Dr. Hidemi Ito, will give the sermon and lead a prayer for global peace. A native of Japan, Reverend Ito is a graduate of Wesley Seminary in Washington D.C. and has been ministering to congregations in the U.S. since the 1960s.
"The Peace Sunday commemoration will call for the limitation of weapons of mass destruction as well as our continued involvement in the peacemaking process," said the church's senior pastor, Rev. Dr. Phyllis Tyler.
"We must keep in mind the harsh reality of the ongoing violence in Iraq, the Holy Land, Iran, Europe, East and Southeast Asia and Africa," she added.
The United Methodist Church advocates social justice and the building of peaceful societies.
