Religious Communities Must Stop Blessing War and Violence
Dear Fellow Advocate for Justice and Peace,

Thank you for your interest in ICUJP. Awareness and involvement are the keys to making change, and you can play such a vital role in ICUJP’s activities by helping us with a generous contribution! Perhaps you joined us as we honored human rights defenders from around the world at our gala event "Speak Truth to Power". You may have marched with us in the streets in support of striking security guards and hotel workers in Los Angeles. We may have met at any one of our other 21 major activities in 2005. Or you may be one of ICUJP’s long-time members or supporters. Now we're inviting you to help us once again to further the cause of local and global peace and justice.

We are gratefully accepting online donations.

A $25 dollar donation could go toward ICUJP’s "Educational Outreach" program, which at little or no cost provides informative and entertaining evenings that introduce notable religious figures, political activists, artists, and passionate citizens of the world to the public at large.

If you contribute $75, you can help expand ICUJP’s two-fold "Congregational Outreach" program. Faith in Action teams of clergy and laity visit congregations who are seeking interfaith dialogue and educational opportunities, and Preaching Peace luncheons gather together clergy of many faiths striving to bring the lessons of peace and justice to their congregations.

A $100 gift would help support ICUJP’s "Military Outreach" projects. We reach out to young people who are struggling with the lure of military recruiters, seeking alternatives to serving in the armed forces, or thinking through the legal and moral complexities of conscientious objector status. At the same time, we support those in our armed forces who wish to continue to serve but are troubled by the unlawful and inhumane missions they may be called to carry out.

And $200 could be put to great use for organizing, printing and travel expenses to support ICUJP’s "Political Outreach". While we recognize the critical importance of the crucial separation between church and state, we also understand the consequential impact of spiritual values on political views, especially in the current climate. With that in mind, ICUJP delegations visit locally and nationally elected officials to present the "other" faith perspective on various matters of legislation, one that advances the cause of peace and justice. From its first days, ICUJP's nonpartisan status has not prevented us from rejecting the misuse of religious language for anti-democratic purposes, and renouncing the culture of fear.

No matter what the amount, your donation will be put to work immediately.

Please help us in any way you can, the levels indicated above are simply suggestions!

Thank you,

The Leadership of Interfaith Communities United for Justice and Peace

p.s. – Recent events have tapped the resources of even the most generous of donors, but the work of ending the war in Iraq and supporting justice issues here at home must continue even as we reach out to those affected by natural disaster. Please don’t delay in sending a gift in whatever amount you can afford TODAY. We need your moral and financial support.
